Ian Paisley expresses frustration at Government delay in dealing with fuel fraud.
DUP MP Ian Paisley has criticised the Government today in the House of Commons for the lack of cooperation between Northern Ireland and the Republic in dealing with the fuel smuggling epidemic that is currently throughout both countries.
Speaking during NIO questions in the House of Commons, Ian Paisley said:
“Is the Secretary of State telling the House today that she is content with the delay in the implementation of the IMS procedure between Customs & Excise in the Republic and HMRC in Northern Ireland. This delay is frustrating the security services, putting billions of pounds into the hands of criminals and importantly helping and assisting organised crime.
What are you going to do about it?”
Mike Penning MP, the NIO Minister for Government responded:
“We are doing everything we possibly can. Are we frustrated? Yes we are. Are the police frustrated? Yes they are. But we have to make sure it’s robust and it’s legal and we will get there.”
